Your Liquid Alchemy piece is made from high-quality epoxy resin — a material that is durable, water-resistant, and built to last for many years when cared for correctly. With the right habits, your piece will retain its gloss, colour depth, and structural integrity for a decade or more.

This guide is written specifically for Indian homes and the Indian climate. Our country presents some unique challenges for resin products — intense summer heat, high monsoon humidity, direct tropical sunlight, and the everyday realities of Indian kitchens and living spaces. Every recommendation in this guide takes these conditions into account.

The care products we recommend are either already found in most Indian households or are easily available at any local grocery store, medical store, or hardware shop. You do not need to source anything from abroad.

Read the section relevant to your product type. If you own multiple Liquid Alchemy pieces, read each relevant section — a wall clock and a set of coasters have different needs.

5 Golden Rules

Before the detailed sections, here are the five rules that apply to every resin product regardless of type:

1. Keep away from direct sunlight. UV rays are the single biggest enemy of resin. Prolonged exposure causes yellowing and colour fading over time, even with UV-resistant resin. This is especially important in India where sunlight is intense year-round.

2. Never expose to extreme heat. Do not place resin pieces near gas stoves, on radiators, on window sills that receive direct afternoon sun, or in any enclosed space that traps heat (like a car parked in the sun). Standard epoxy resin begins to soften above approximately 60°C.

3. Keep the surface dry after use. While cured resin is water-resistant, prolonged standing water, especially during the monsoon when ambient humidity is high, can affect the surface finish over time. Wipe surfaces dry after use.

4. Use only soft, non-abrasive materials for cleaning. Never use steel wool, abrasive scrubbers, harsh chemical cleaners, or acetone on any resin surface. These will permanently scratch or cloud the gloss finish.

5. Handle with care. Resin is hard but not indestructible. A sharp drop on a hard floor, or impact with a heavy object, can chip or crack the surface. Handle all pieces gently, especially near edges and corners.

Resin Jewellery

Pendants, Earrings, Rings, Bangles, Bracelets

Resin jewellery is lightweight, colourful, and expressive. But it requires the most careful handling of all resin products because of how frequently it contacts skin, sweat, chemicals, and varied surfaces.

Daily wear

Resin jewellery is suitable for everyday wear but should be the last thing you put on and the first thing you take off. Apply perfume, deodorant, hairspray, and any other sprays or lotions before wearing your resin jewellery. Many of these products contain alcohol or solvents that can dull the surface finish of resin over time.
Avoid wearing resin jewellery while cooking. Oil splatter and steam can leave residue on the surface, and the heat near a gas stove can affect resin over repeated exposure.
Remove resin jewellery before washing dishes, doing laundry, or any activity involving prolonged contact with water and detergents.
Avoid wearing resin bangles or bracelets while doing heavy physical work — construction, gardening, gym workouts. Impact and abrasion from hard surfaces will scratch the surface.

Cleaning

After each wear, wipe gently with a soft, dry cotton cloth to remove sweat, skin oils, and any surface residue. A clean muslin cloth or a soft old cotton kurta fabric works perfectly.
For a deeper clean, dampen a soft cloth with plain water and a tiny drop of mild soap — Dove bar soap dissolved in water, or a drop of Johnson's baby shampoo, work well. Wipe gently, then immediately wipe dry with a clean dry cloth.
Do not soak resin jewellery in water.
Do not use any jewellery cleaning solutions, acidic cleaners, or chemical polishes on resin. These are formulated for metal or gemstones and will damage the resin surface.

Storage

Store each piece in a soft pouch or a small zip-lock bag to prevent scratching from other jewellery. Most jewellery you buy in India comes in small fabric pouches — keep these and reuse them.
Do not store resin jewellery in a pile with metal jewellery. Metal edges will scratch resin surfaces.
Keep stored jewellery away from direct sunlight. A regular jewellery box kept in a drawer or cupboard is ideal.
During summer: Store jewellery in the coolest part of your home. Do not leave it on a dressing table near a window that receives direct afternoon sun.
During monsoon: Store in an airtight box or zip-lock bag if you live in a high-humidity area (coastal cities, areas that receive heavy rain). A small silica gel sachet — the kind that comes with new shoes or electronics — placed inside the storage box will absorb excess moisture. These are reusable: dry them out in the sun or in a warm oven and they work again.

Restoring shine

If your resin jewellery loses a little of its original gloss from regular wear, apply a tiny amount of coconut oil or any clear baby oil on a soft cloth and buff gently. This will temporarily restore surface shine and is completely safe for resin.
For a more lasting restoration, a very thin coat of clear nail polish (transparent/top coat) applied carefully over the surface and allowed to dry completely can refresh the gloss. Use this sparingly and only when the piece genuinely needs it.

Daily use and handling

Resin keychains are durable for everyday use but avoid dropping them repeatedly on hard floors — the edges of cast resin can chip on impact with tile or marble.
Keep keychains away from the inside of bags that contain sharp objects like scissors, hairpins, or keys with rough edges. These will scratch the surface over time.
Bookmarks should not be bent or forced into books that are too tightly packed. While resin is hard, repeated lateral stress can cause thin resin pieces to crack at their edges.

Cleaning

Wipe with a soft dry cloth after use to remove fingerprints and oils.
For a deeper clean, use a damp cloth with a drop of mild soap, then dry immediately.

Storage

Store bookmarks flat, not upright, to avoid stress on thin edges.
Keep in a soft pouch when not in use.

Resin Coasters

Free Form, Ocean Wave, Fresh Flower, Bloom, and all other coaster types

Coasters are functional objects — they are used daily, handled frequently, and exposed to liquid, heat, and physical contact. Proper care will keep them looking beautiful for years.

Everyday use

Use them for cold and lukewarm drinks. Resin coasters are suitable for glasses, mugs, and cups containing cold beverages and warm drinks like chai and coffee. However, they are not suitable for use as trivets or hot plates — do not place pots, pans, pressure cookers, or any vessel coming directly from a gas stove or oven onto a resin coaster. The concentrated heat can cause the resin to soften and deform.
If you want to use a coaster for a cup of freshly poured boiling tea or coffee, wait 2–3 minutes after pouring before placing the cup on the coaster. The brief wait is all that's needed.
Do not leave wet glasses sitting on coasters for extended periods — always wipe the coaster dry after use.

Cleaning

After daily use: Wipe with a damp cloth and mild soap — any bar soap like Lux or Dove dissolved in water works well. Rinse with a clean damp cloth and dry immediately with a soft dry cloth. Do not leave coasters soaking in water.
For stubborn stains (tea rings, coffee marks, turmeric): Make a paste of baking soda (meetha soda) and a few drops of water. Apply gently with a soft cloth using circular motions, then wipe clean. Baking soda is a very mild abrasive that is safe for resin and available in every Indian kitchen.
For sticky residue: A small piece of cotton dipped in pure coconut oil — the kind used for cooking or hair — rubbed gently over the sticky area will lift residue without damaging the resin surface. Wipe clean with a damp cloth afterwards.
What not to use on coasters: Steel wool scrubbers, Vim powder, Scotch-Brite green abrasive pads, Harpic, Colin glass cleaner, or any product containing bleach, ammonia, or strong acids. All of these will damage the surface.

Protection and display

Place coasters on a flat, stable surface. Avoid surfaces that vibrate or tilt.
If you are storing coasters when not in use, place a soft cloth or a folded tissue between each coaster in the stack to prevent surface scratching.
Keep coasters away from the kitchen window sill or any spot that receives direct afternoon sunlight.

Monsoon care

Coasters used in humid rooms or near windows during the monsoon should be wiped dry more frequently. High humidity does not damage cured resin structurally, but persistent moisture on the surface can gradually affect the gloss finish over time.
If you live in a very humid city (Mumbai, Kochi, Chennai, Kolkata), storing coasters in a dry cabinet when not in regular use is a simple precaution.

Trays and Serving Trays

Everyday use

Resin trays are suitable for serving dry snacks, fruits, and items at room temperature. They are water-resistant and food-safe once fully cured.
Do not use resin trays to serve very hot food directly from the stove. For hot items, allow the dish or plate to sit for a few minutes before placing it on the tray.
Do not cut or slice food directly on a resin tray surface. The tray is a serving and display piece, not a chopping board.
Resin trays are not microwave-safe and should not be placed inside a microwave or oven.
Food safety note: Liquid Alchemy uses food-safe resin for trays and coasters. However, for extra peace of mind, use the tray to serve items in plates or bowls rather than placing food in direct prolonged contact with the resin surface.

Cleaning

After everyday use: Wash with mild dish soap (Vim liquid or Pril liquid) and a soft sponge or soft cloth. Rinse with clean water and dry immediately with a soft cotton cloth. Do not leave the tray to air dry as water spots can form.
Do not wash in a dishwasher — the high heat and harsh detergents of dishwashers will damage the resin surface and finish over time.
Do not soak in water.
For oil or grease stains from serving fried food: A soft cloth dampened with a small amount of white vinegar (sirka) — widely available in Indian grocery stores — applied gently and wiped off with a damp cloth works effectively. White vinegar is mild enough for resin and cuts through oil well.
For turmeric stains — one of the most common staining agents in Indian kitchens: Apply a paste of baking soda and a drop of lemon juice to the stain, leave for 2–3 minutes, then wipe gently with a soft cloth. Do not scrub hard. Repeat if necessary. This combination is safe for resin and highly effective on turmeric.

Display and storage

Store trays flat when not in use. Do not store vertically propped against a wall for extended periods as this can put stress on thin resin pieces over time.
Keep away from gas stove proximity — kitchen counter placement is fine as long as the tray is not directly adjacent to a lit burner.
Avoid placing trays where they will receive concentrated direct sunlight for several hours daily.

Resin Wall Clocks

Beach, Geode, Ocean Wave, and all clock types

Wall clocks combine resin art with a functional clock mechanism. They require care of both the resin surface and the clock components.

Placement

Do not hang resin wall clocks on walls that receive direct sunlight — particularly south-facing or west-facing walls in Indian homes that receive strong afternoon sun. A wall in diffused natural light, or illuminated by artificial indoor lighting, is ideal.
Do not hang in the kitchen where oil vapour, steam, and heat can accumulate on the surface over time.
Bathroom placement is not recommended — the combination of steam, high humidity, and temperature fluctuation in Indian bathrooms is not suitable for resin clocks.
Ideal placement: Living room walls, bedroom walls, dining room, or office spaces with normal ventilation and ambient lighting.
Ensure the wall hook or nail is firmly fixed into the wall and can bear the weight of the clock before hanging. Resin wall clocks are heavier than standard plastic or wood clocks.

Resin surface care

Dusting: Dust the clock surface weekly using a soft dry microfibre cloth — the kind sold at any local general store or Reliance/DMart for ₹30–50. Dust buildup on a glossy resin surface is easily visible and reduces the reflective quality of the piece.
Fingerprints and smudges: Wipe with a soft cloth slightly dampened with plain water. Dry immediately with a dry soft cloth.
For a deeper clean: Use a drop of Colin glass and surface cleaner on a soft cloth (not sprayed directly on the clock) and wipe gently. Colin is safe for cured resin surfaces and is available in every Indian household. Wipe dry afterwards.
Do not use abrasive cleaners or rough scrubbing materials on the clock surface.
Do not spray water or any liquid directly onto the clock — water entering the clock mechanism will damage it.

Clock mechanism care

Battery replacement: Replace the AA battery when the clock slows or stops. Use a standard branded battery (Duracell, Eveready Gold, or Nippo) — cheap unbranded batteries can leak and damage the clock mechanism. When replacing the battery, handle the clock carefully and avoid pressing hard on the resin surface.
Clock hands: Handle clock hands gently. Do not bend or force them. If a hand becomes slightly misaligned, move it very gently with a light touch.
Ticking sound: Quality clock mechanisms produce a light tick. If the ticking becomes loud or irregular, the battery may be running low. Replace it promptly — a dying battery that is left in the mechanism can sometimes leak and damage it.
The clock mechanism is set to Indian Standard Time (IST) format. If the clock loses or gains time significantly, it likely needs a new battery.

Monsoon and humidity care

During the monsoon, if you live in a high-humidity city, check periodically that no condensation is forming behind the clock where it rests against the wall. If the wall itself is damp or prone to seepage during monsoon, temporarily remove the clock and store it until the wall dries.

Geode Wall Décor, Abstract Panels, Varmala Preservation Frames, Photo Frames

Wall art pieces are typically the most visually striking pieces in the Liquid Alchemy collection. They require the least active maintenance but the most thoughtful placement.

Placement — the most important factor

Direct sunlight is the primary risk for wall art. A large resin panel placed on a wall that receives direct morning or afternoon sun will gradually yellow at the exposed areas, particularly in the clear and lighter-coloured sections. Choose walls with indirect or diffused light.
Air conditioner proximity: Avoid hanging resin wall art directly below or very close to a wall-mounted AC unit. The regular dripping of condensation from AC units — common in Indian homes during summer — can stain the resin surface over time if it falls repeatedly on the piece. Additionally, the cold airflow from the AC directed constantly at a resin surface can cause stress over time.
Height and safety: Ensure large pieces are hung securely with appropriate wall anchors or rawl plugs into the wall, especially in older buildings where wall plaster may be softer. A large resin frame falling from height is a serious safety risk. When in doubt, consult a local handyman (mistri) to ensure secure installation.

Cleaning

Regular dusting: Dust monthly with a soft microfibre cloth using light, gentle strokes. For large panels, a clean, soft paint brush (the kind used for watercolours, available at any stationery shop) is excellent for dusting intricate geode formations and textured surfaces without applying pressure.
For smudges and fingerprints: A soft cloth dampened with plain water, followed immediately by a dry cloth, is sufficient for most cleaning. Work from the centre of the piece outward.
Colin glass cleaner applied on a cloth (not sprayed directly) is safe and effective for a deeper clean of flat resin wall art surfaces. Avoid this on preserved flower or organic inclusion pieces — use plain water only.
For pieces with preserved flowers, varmala, or organic inclusions: Use only a soft dry cloth or a very lightly damp cloth with plain water. Do not use any cleaning solutions on these pieces as they can affect the preserved botanicals embedded in the resin.

Varmala and organic preservation frames — special care

These pieces carry irreplaceable sentimental value and deserve extra care.

Hang away from direct sunlight — UV exposure will cause the preserved flowers to fade over time, even through the resin. This cannot be reversed.
Do not hang in rooms with high humidity such as bathrooms or rooms adjacent to the kitchen.
If any resin discolouration develops in a preserved piece — rare but possible over many years — this is a natural process of the preservation medium interacting with organic matter over time. It cannot be corrected at home. Contact Liquid Alchemy if you need guidance.
These pieces should be dusted only with a soft, completely dry cloth. No liquids of any kind on the surface.

Games and Chess Boards

Use

Resin chess boards are decorative as well as functional. They can be used for actual play.
Do not eat or drink over an open resin chess board during a game. Spills, particularly of tea, coffee, or oily snacks — common in Indian game sessions — are difficult to clean from between chess piece holders or textured surfaces.
Chess pieces should be placed and moved gently. Do not slam pieces down hard on the resin surface as this can chip the surface over time.

Cleaning

Wipe the board surface with a soft damp cloth after use. Dry immediately.
For the recessed areas between squares or around textured edges, use a soft old toothbrush dipped in plain water with a drop of mild soap to reach into crevices without scratching the surface. An old soft-bristle toothbrush is the perfect tool for this.
Dry thoroughly after cleaning — ensure no water remains in any recessed areas.
Store the board flat in a dry place when not in use. Do not stack heavy items on top of it.

Large Resin Table Tops and Furniture Inlays

Ocean Wave Table Tops, River Tables, Counter Inlays

Large resin furniture pieces represent a significant investment and require the most comprehensive care. Done correctly, a resin table top will remain beautiful for 15–20 years or more.

Placement and environment

Sunlight: Never place a resin table in a position where direct sunlight falls on it for extended periods each day. Near a window is fine — in the path of direct sunlight is not. Even UV-resistant resin will eventually show yellowing in direct tropical sunlight over years. Use curtains, blinds, or UV-filtering window film (available at hardware stores across India) to protect the table while still allowing natural light into the room.
Heat sources: Keep resin tables away from kitchen stoves, tandoors, or any open flame source. Do not place resin tables on balconies or terraces where they will receive direct sun and rain.
Air conditioning: Rooms with air conditioning are actually ideal for resin furniture — the controlled temperature and reduced humidity are exactly the conditions that maximise resin longevity.
Floor levelling: Ensure your table is on a level floor. An unlevel surface puts constant stress on one side of the table and can cause micro-stress in the resin over years.

Daily use

Hot vessels: Do not place hot pots, pressure cookers, or baking trays directly from the stove or oven onto a resin table top. Always use trivets or heat pads. Standard resin begins to soften above approximately 60°C — a hot vessel from the stove can reach 200°C or more and will cause permanent deformation, white marks, or cracking in the resin surface. This is the most common cause of damage to resin table tops in Indian homes.
Cutting and chopping: Never cut or chop food directly on a resin table top. Use a chopping board at all times. Knife marks in resin are permanent.
Weight: Avoid placing extremely heavy objects — stacked stone, heavy machinery, large filled water containers — directly on the resin surface. While structural epoxy resin is strong, concentrated point loads on thin edges can cause cracking.
Cups and glasses: Always use coasters under cups, glasses, and bottles on a resin table. Even though resin is water-resistant, prolonged ring marks from wet glasses, especially in hard water areas, can leave mineral deposits on the surface.

Cleaning

Daily cleaning: Wipe with a soft damp cloth — a cotton gamcha, soft cotton dusting cloth, or microfibre cloth. No harsh pressure required. Wipe dry afterwards.
After meals: Use Pril or Vim liquid dish soap diluted in water on a soft cloth or sponge. Wipe, rinse with a clean damp cloth, and dry immediately. Never use Vim powder or any abrasive paste on a resin table surface.
For oil stains (very common in Indian dining settings): Rubbing a small amount of pure coconut oil on the oil stain first — counterintuitive but effective — loosens the bond of the cooking oil with the surface. Wipe clean with a mild soapy cloth. Alternatively, a cloth dampened with white vinegar works well on oil residue.
For turmeric and spice stains: Baking soda paste as described in Category 4 — apply, wait 2–3 minutes, wipe gently. For persistent stains, repeat the process rather than scrubbing harder.
For hard water marks and mineral deposits — common in Mumbai, Delhi, and many other Indian cities where tap water has high mineral content: Wipe with a cloth dampened in white vinegar (sirka) and leave for 2–3 minutes, then wipe clean. The mild acid in vinegar dissolves mineral deposits without harming the resin surface.
Monthly polish: Once a month, apply a thin coat of regular furniture polish — Wax-it, Rexolin, or any clear furniture wax available at hardware stores — on a soft cloth and buff the surface in circular motions. This restores the deep gloss of the resin and adds a protective layer. Wipe off any excess with a clean dry cloth. This single habit will keep your resin table looking like new for years.

Scratch care

Fine surface scratches from everyday use can be minimised by buffing the area gently with a soft cloth and a small amount of Brasso metal polish — available at any hardware store in India. Apply a tiny amount on a soft cloth, rub very gently in circular motions over the scratch, then wipe clean. This works for fine surface scratches only. Deep gouges cannot be repaired at home.

Monsoon care for resin tables

During the monsoon, particularly in coastal cities, wipe the table surface dry more frequently if the room is humid.
If you use a table cover or tablecloth during monsoon, ensure it is a breathable fabric and remove it periodically to air the resin surface. A damp cloth left on a resin surface for extended periods can cause surface cloudiness.
Naphthalene balls or silica gel packets placed in the room near the table — not on the table — will help control ambient humidity in enclosed rooms during monsoon. Both are easily available at any pharmacy or general store in India.

March to June

The key threats are intense UV radiation and extreme heat.

Reposition any pieces that have shifted into direct sunlight as the sun angle changes with the season
Never leave resin products in a car parked in the sun — car interiors in Indian summers can reach 70–80°C, far beyond safe temperatures for resin

Dry conditions are generally the most favourable for resin — minimal risk

The temperature fluctuation between warm days and cold nights in December–January in North India can occasionally cause stress in large resin pieces — ensure table tops and wall art are in rooms with reasonably stable temperatures
